International Office Visits

We will find out which countries are visited by the international Office, e.g. Jordan and Uganda and what sort of help they provide, e.g. guidance on application procedure and qualifications and continued support after your arrival.

11o Nationalities on Campus

There are over 110 nationalities in the student body. This should be highlighted or featured in some way.

International Campuses

‘Sister’ universities and overseas campuses e.g. Brussels could be discussed on the website/cd.

Logo and Title

Ideas for the logo

There were three ideas for the the logo and title of the project.

KIS logokis
Kent International Students. This was the first idea, and was thought of quite obviously because it sounded like ‘kiss’ which we because of the casual-ness of the logo and title would appeal to university students. However because we are dealing with students from so many backgrounds, some may find it offensive.

GIS logogis

Guide for International Students. A rather conventional logo, and it was decided this went to far on the other side by being to boring, and not very unique or inspired.

Final Logonew

This is the final logo and the title will simply be ‘new’. It looks unconventional and proffessional at the same time. Another nice thing about the chosen title is it will be easily transferable if the project were to later expand for new home students as well.

Research
•    Interview international students to find out what they would have appreciated in an introduction pack and in addition draw on personal experience.
•    Study what is currently available to international students at University of Kent and other universities.
•    Find out more about international societies and what they provide.
•    Study other websites that are used by many international users.

Information and Resources

Library/Campus/Canterbury Tour
Using 3D or 2D animation or with filming, with interactivity available.

Testimonials
Video clips (1-2min) of international students describing their experience and giving recommendations and advice to new students.

Support
Advice on how to make the best of life as an international student in giving tips for various aspects such as: studying, socialising, security, finding accommodation, language lessons, and information on websites and places where they can get help.

Events Page
A page with information on upcoming international related events on campus or in Canterbury e.g. International Night, International Week.

Forum
A link to an online forum accessible only for first year students before and after they join the university (for the duration of their first year) to provide a comfortable platform to discuss any issues, fears or positive experiences they have.

Presentation
Characters
Animated characters of at least four different nationalities presenting the information.

Visual based
The project should be largely visually stimulating to make it understandable to a wide range of users, for example through the use widely recognisable symbols in the icons, pictures, and animation.

Languages:
Textual information should be available in at least three different languages other than English (e.g. French, Swahili, and Mandarin)

Web-based and CD
Some parts must be web-based, but perhaps other parts can be made available on a CD or DVD for those who will not have regular internet access prior to joining the university. The CD could be sent in the welcome pack when they are accepted into the University.
